The first Grateful Fred's Americana, Roots and Acoustic Night took place on the 10th of September 2010 with a concert by Grand Rapid, Michigan singer-songwriter "Drew Nelson" at The Freshfield Hotel, Formby,
Founded by Colin Maddocks (aka. Grateful Fred) it was the start of a musical journey for Colin and several others in the room that night, that has gone on uninterrupted for almost nine years at the time of writing this.
We have welcomed so many brilliant musicians and performers to Grateful Fred's during that time and many have returned to play for us over the years.
We have welcomed Americana and acoustic artists from across the USA, Canada, Australia, the Uk and across Europe and we've enjoyed some of the most magical moments.
Friendships have been forged and celebrated and we've also lost a few of our Fredhead friends who will always be with us in spirit.
The "main" Grateful Fred Night has traditionally always taken place on the first Wednesday of every month and that tradition carries on to this day. We have also developed a series of mid-month gigs, "The Grateful Fred Cafe' Sessions" at the Cafe' D' Art in Formby near Liverpool and we now also host the "Grateful Fred House Concert Series".
Over the years "The Grateful Fred Band", and then "The Grateful Fred Ukulele Trio" have acted as hosts and performed at most Grateful Fred Nights and events.
Currently it's just me, Grateful Fred, that's hosting.
Additionally we have also given birth to "Grateful Fred's Ukelear Deterrent", who have played at ukulele festivals and events throughout the North West of England. You can find out more about "The Deterrents" here: www.facebook.com/GratefulFredsUkelearDeterrent/
Our community of "Fredheads" continues to grow and we hope that we offer artists and audiences alike a great atmosphere to perform and hear great, live, acoustic music at it's best.
